As a wife and mother, my health and wellness make a huge difference on not only my life but also on that of my family. Knowing I needed to make a difference in my life pushed me to make some major life changes. So when I first started my fitness journey I thought it was all about time in the gym. I spent hours in the gym and was going 2-3 times a day at least 5 days a week. I seen some small results in the beginning, but soon fell off as the dynamics of my family life changed. I was also working out with my husband, which helped motivate me to keep going. He got busy at work and thus I lost my workout buddy. Shortly after that I hit the largest plateau in my workout journey.
Eventually I got into running and was even getting others in my neighborhood into running to get into shape. Eventually though I was back down just to me and since I have had several knee injuries got discouraged quickly. It was around this time that I got the news that I needed to have a major surgery. I was scared to death, but was told that I was super healthy and since I was running around 8 miles a day that all should be just fine.
Shortly before this a friend from college asked me if I had ever heard about Beachbody. Of course I was all like. You mean the company I bought Insanity for my husband from. J Anyway, I told her I would think about it but that I needed to wait until I seen how my surgery went. Well I am glad that I did. My surgery definitely didn’t go as planned and I not only had my original surgery but less than 14 days later I also had an emergency surgery. It was a huge battle and I was very glad to get past the original healing period.
I started working out with Beachbody programs as soon as I got the Ok from the doctor and originally only signed up for the discount. I started with Hip, Hop, Abs by Shaun T in hopes that it would help to rebuild my abdominal area, since that is the area that my surgery was done on. I got good results and found my confidence in working out again. My husband was also right there cheering me on, because of all I had been through and my fear of starting over again.
Shortly after this I went all in. I ordered the 21 Day Fix program and have never looked back. I completed my first full round and lost 6 lbs in my first round. Shortly after that in Oct. of 2015 I ended up in yet another surgery for complications it took several more weeks of healing and then I was back to the 21 Day Fix program. Something that I learned and that helped me to be successful in this program where I wasn’t in many other forms of working out that I have used was the accountability and the understanding of portion control and nutrition that came with Beachbody and the 21 day Fix program.
So what I have learned on this journey to this point is that Accountability is Key and so is knowing proper portion sizes and the understanding of clean eating. Does that mean I am perfect all the time? NO WAY! I still love pizza every now and then….and of course Kettle chips always hit the spot on occasion. What I have incorporated in my life is the 80/20 rule and how small changes over time add up to success on my fitness journey. It is the compound effect and it works splendidly.
I have also learned that changing your lifestyle is truly a journey not a destination. I choose to keep learning and working on mine every single day. I have tried many of the Beachbody programs since that time, but my love is still the 21 Day Fix programs….though PiYo has become my second love. I now host the very same groups that helped me with accountability to my program and share the nutritional information that I learned through Challenge Groups.
